Jeannette Walls, author of the best-selling memoir “The Glass Castle,” presented keynote remarks at Washington and Lee University’s seventh annual Tom Wolfe Weekend Seminar on March 12, 2010. The seminar’s theme was “Hardship, Resilience, and the Art of the Memoir,” and it examined poverty in America and the art of the memoir. Walls’ memoir, which details her life growing up in extreme poverty, has sold more 2 million copies while “Half Broke Horses: A True Life Novel” was selected as their “Best Read” by Independent Book Sellers.
